M is still coughing hard nearly every time she takes a breath in
An outside pocket on my pack fell apart, sanded clean through by the wind
There are less folks up here than I thought there’d be, but the station is a challenging climb
The LYN has been dead for two weeks, and it felt like such a long time


We’ve been hard pressed, but doing our best
to keep our spirits up when we can, I’m still good for a laugh or two says M


The guy who seems to run the place says it’s 40 yrs since they fell off the grid
He’s got no reason to leave here, he’s made a home in the hangar with his kid
They don’t really ration power anymore, they figure if you make it it’s earned
All these folks are weary, but they share stories & food & wait their turn


We’ve been hard pressed, but doing our best
to keep our spirits up when we can, I’m still good for a laugh or two says M


Turns out all the stories are true, sounds like they’ve got it better up north
We met a woman from Edmonton, she’s been sneaking plums across the border
She said their cities still have running water, and they keep their kids in school til grade eight
M smiled at me with tears in her eyes and said “It finally feels like we’re gonna make it.”
